Bike or Briefcase?

Above shows Marcos Madia's design concept of a small, portable bike that was shortlisted in the finals in the Seoul Cycle Design competition. At first glance of the product my immediate reaction was wow, a bike that folds up into a briefcase. I thought this was a great idea, and actually very practical. I really can see people, even business men using this design as a way of transporation to and from work every day. It is a very interesting idea, just think, all you have to do every morning before work is to unlatch your brief case and watch it dismantle itself right in front of your eyes. your brief case remains intact in the middle of the bike, and you simply jump on and ride to work. No hassle, no heavy back pack no old lady's shopper hanging on the front to hold your things.

However I was mistaken with the functionality of this bike. The added brief case was not the designers intentions at all. The designer aimed this bike at people going to work in the morning, trying to convince them to not use their cars but to you their bikes. Although the bike design wasnt what I thought it was, it is still a very innovative product. However someday I would like to see the idea of the brief case and bike joined. Maybe with the use of a very light metal material and other specific design features this concept could be possible!
